The spray foam is applied using a commercially available plurality of sets of dispensing ratio equipment. It should be applied by a trained professional contractor. SPF can also be used for smaller applications using pre-packaged cans or larger pressurized bottles of DIY foam insulation kits.

The polyol resin and isocyanate material components are typically supplied in a 55 gallon drum kit. Materials must be transported and stored in accordance with specific procedures. After use at the construction site, they are transferred from a 55-gallon drum to the machine using a special pump called a transfer pump.

A typical apparatus for applying SPF has two metering pumps or proportional pumps (one for each component) that heat and ratio the isocyanate and polyol resin to the spray gun in a 1:1 ratio through a heated hose. The two materials remain separate throughout the system until they are brought together in the spray gun where they are mixed and sprayed onto the substrate.

Advantages Spray foam insulation:

High R value

Sprayed polyurethane foam has an aged R value of about 6.0 per inch of thickness (depending on the particular formulation and application, higher values have been achieved), enabling it to be supplied in less material than any other type of commercial insulation material. Higher heat resistance. . SPF systems are often used to isolate and protect a variety of residential, commercial and industrial buildings.
